Mind-Body-Soul Connection on a Retreat with Conscious Collab

In this fast-paced world it is easy to become worn down, distracted, disconnected and stuck, living life on autopilot — a dimmed version of who we really are. It is becoming increasingly important to give ourselves the opportunity to connect back to our true self, through the practice of yoga and meditation.

We got in touch with Hannelize Robinson, yoga instructor and retreat host, to hear all about her personal yoga journey as well as what you can expect on her upcoming retreat!

Hannelize Robinson is an Event Producer & Yoga Teacher based in Johannesburg. After completing her Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Sarah Bentz at Living Yoga in 2014, she was inspired to share the many benefits of yoga with others. Along with teaching regular classes at Living Yoga, Hannelize is also passionate about teaching Corporate Yoga and Yoga Retreats.

“I believe that yoga is accessible to everyone and it is not about how flexible or strong you are …or about mastering a difficult pose” says Hannelize, “it is rather about how mindful and present you are on (and off) the mat.” Hannelize went on to explain that asana (the physical practice) is just one of the eight limbs of Yoga and Meditation has become an integral part of her daily practice.

“Yoga and meditation has helped me to move beyond the mind’s stress-inducing thoughts and emotional ups & downs into the peace and clarity of present moment awareness. It has also allowed me to see the world from a new perspective, and to release old & limiting beliefs and habits.”

It was during an inspiring break in Ubud, Bali, that Hannelize had the realisation of combining her skills and experience in event & project management with her passion for yoga & meditation. The concept of Conscious Collab was born, an initative to craft unique group experiences and gatherings for mind, body & spirit.

The aim of Conscious Collab is to help create a healthier, harmonious and more conscious, connected world. “I know first-hand how stressful life can become and I am inspired to guide others on how to deal with the challenges we are faced with on a daily basis using yoga and meditation.”

Hannelize discovered that the best way to connect to yourself, was to escape the hustle and bustle of city living than to go on a yoga retreat! “If you struggle to find time to practice yoga in your everyday life then the benefit of going on a yoga retreat is being able to practice every day without distraction.” says Hannelize.

In March 2019, Hannelize will be hosting her third Yoga retreat at Oaklands Country Manor in central. Drakensburg. The Tully family, sisters Annie, Caroline, Kathy and brother Simon are all passionate about sharing their energy, their environment and the produce of this beautiful farm. The accommodation for this retreat is stylish yet homely, reflecting the comfortable countryside lifestyle that the stunning location affords.

Guests who attend this retreat can look forward to healthy meals from the award winning kitchen run by Kathy Romer-Lee. The organic meals are made with ingredients sourced from Oakland’s own garden. What Kathy doesn’t have herself, she sources locally, maintaining that a symbiotic relationship between land, people and community is the secret to a healthy and happy way of life. The result – simple, delicious, flavourful and healthy food. This is the perfect opportunity to eat well without having to worry about it yourself, as well as forming wellness habits that you can take home with you!

Other highlights of this retreat include daily yoga and meditation, guided nature walks, picnic lunch overlooking the Natal escarpment as well as enough time to simply relax. Guests on the retreat will also be given the opportunity to learn more about regenerative farming – a tour of the Permaculture gardens and “The Cultured Whey” production kitchen where Caroline’s team produces Kombucha Vinegar, Beet Kvass, Raw Organic Krauts, as well as her infamous natural antibiotic, Fire Tonic.

“We give so much of ourselves in our daily lives that it can be difficult to really take a moment just for ourselves. While you can meet some amazing people on retreat, you can also use it as an opportunity to be alone… it is all about taking that time for yourself.”

Along with Yoga Retreats, Hannelize also offers PSYCH-K, a blend of various tools for change, some contemporary and some ancient, derived from  neuroscience research, as well as ancient mind/body wisdom. The PSYCH is an abbreviation for Psyche – mind, soul or spirit; and the K – Key to sustainable change.

PSYCH-K is a unique and direct way to change subconscious beliefs that perpetuate old habits of thinking and behaving that you would like to change. It is a simple process that helps you communicate with your subconscious mind so you can change beliefs that limit your self-esteem, relationships, job performance, and even your physical health, and much more!

Guests are welcome to arrange PSYCH-K sessions with Hannelize during their free time on the retreat,

“Mindfulness practice means that we commit fully in each moment to be present; inviting ourselves to interface with this moment in full awareness, with the intention to embody as best we can an orientation of calmness, mindfulness, and equanimity right here and right now.” - Jon Kabat-Zinn

Hannelize hosts retreats at least three times a year, providing ample opportunity for you to escape, reboot and restore.
