Kundalini in India; A Journey to become a Yoga Teacher.

If you have been manifesting the journey of becoming a Kundalini yoga teacher, it is serendipitous that you landed on this article. Imagine spending three transformative weeks in the home of yoga, along the beautiful coast of India. Imagine meditation at sunrise, yoga practices and theory sessions in your Shala on the beach... and sound journeys to end the evening. This could be your journey. We got in touch with Ilana Fintz, co-founder and yoga instructor at GuruRamDas Yoga Studio in Cape Town to hear all about their Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in India in 2019.
As a child, Ilana intuitively moved in and out of yoga postures, blissfully unaware. She began a formal practice in her teens, and has gone on to train under such esteemed teachers as Yogi Bhajan, Gurmukh and Richard Freeman. She continuously expands her personal practice with numerous disciplines. She has also assisted in numerous International KRI Teacher trainings as well as facilitated trainings at the GuruRamDas home. It was during a Restorative and Therapeutic training in India, that Ilana was approached to host a Kundalini Training. "It is a massively healing and transformative practice," says Ilana, as she went on to explain that this style of yoga works to cleanse the body and mind.
What is Kundalini?
Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, is an incredibly transformative spiritual practice that incorporates physical, mental and spiritual development, allowing us to achieve our highest human potential. This ancient science incorporates movement, pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation as well as the chanting of mantras to increase physical vitality and raise consciousness.
Kundalini Yoga consists of many kriya's, a series of postures, breath, and sound that work toward a specific outcome, for e,g, cleansing kriya's, energizing kriya's, and even kriya;s to balance your aura. The mantra Sat Nam, often chanted in Kundalini Yoga, translates to "truth is my identity."
Although Ilana has assisted in numerous International KRI Teacher trainings as well as facilitated trainings at GuruRamDas, she is excited to be hosting this training in the heart of India, the home of yoga! "The fact that it is retreat style allows you to fully escape" says Ilana, going on to explain that the training venue, Little Cove, is a breathtaking Eco organic beach-front yoga resort set under coconut palm trees in South Goa, India. Students will be staying in thatched cottages that have everything you need.
"It is an amazing place to learn and discover" she added, explaining that by fully surrounding yourself in the process without any distractions, is when true transformation takes place. This 21 day immersion includes practical and theory sessions as well sound journeys, allowing you to delve deep into the practice of asana, meditation and pranayama. In between practices and lectures, students can look forward to delicious vegetarian meals made from organically grown local produce.
When asked what she is looking forward to most, Ilana responded "It is a really nice team!" as she went on to highlight the extensive experience and knowledge that this teaching team holds. "Working with them is going to be amazing because they are all good teachers that I enjoy". Ilana went on to explain how excited she is, knowing that all students will be in good hands. Akshey's extensive knowledge of yoga philosophy and anatomy helps you experience the physical and physiological impact of asana combined with the application of Bhandas and the guidance of Prana.
Doron has spent years exploring different spiritual traditions and practises with master healers and teachers Through ayurvedic principles you will gain a better understanding of how to keep body and mind balanced.
This training aims at providing you with the information to better understand yoga as well as the tools to be an efficient and effective teacher. This training will cover modules such as the art of teaching, anatomy & physiology, philosophy, yoga ethics, the energetic system and the 10 bodies. There will also be practicals and lectures on pranayama, mantra, mudra, meditation, postures & alignment, ayurveda and communication skills. All students will also be given the opportunity to practice teaching
On your days off, there are Ayurvedic massages, treatments, dolphin-watching and complimentary cooking courses. A very special place for experiencing the peace and calm of nature with little to no distractions.
To attend this training, it is recommended that students have some experience in the style of Kundalini. and share a passion for the practice of yoga.
