The Deeper Retreat, 5-9 December, Swellendam

The one last year was so good, we are doing it again.
It is hard to explain this experience in words, but here we go...

The Deeper Retreat takes place at Somerset Gift Getaway Farm, a hidden gem deep in a valley bordering the Marloth Nature Reserve just outside Swellendam (2,5 hours drive from Cape Town). Sunrise reveals mountain paths through thick indigenous forest to endless waterfalls, and sunset glimmers on the river that flows past the farmhouse and cottages. The moon and stars light up the pastures and fields in this nook of simple living. Accommodation is shared or private in the main farmhouse and surrounding cottages.

What you can expect:

  • An experience beyond any expectations or explanations as we come with none and allow the group dynamics to flow

  • A real, raw, organic, dynamic, restorative, grounding & expansive experience with awesome humans

  • A completely unique, fun & practical approach to meditation & movement with Dave

  • The most incredible plant-based cuisine you have ever tasted and nutrition workshops about cooking, eating and living with love with Nat & Fran

  • An intimate sound journey and a live concert with one of South Africa's greatest musicians Guy Buttery

  • The combined experience of what Guy & Dave facilitate which is an open form meditation & movement experience fuelled by Guy's melodies & rhythms

  • As well as a combined food tasting sound sense journey with the 4 of us!

  • Lots of time in nature, alone in silence, moving outdoors in the rivers, waterfalls, forests & mountains of the immediate surroundings on the farm, and group activities together

  • Honest discussion & sharing circles exploring life, direct experience, storytelling and Dave’s proposition, Original Conditio

  • An opportunity to hold space for yourself, to create and share with others and integrate these lessons back in to your life

Here is the proposed schedule (please note it is a shell that has changes each day. Each day will build into the next and will remain slightly flexible. It is likely that times may change slightly to ensure the flow of the groups dynamics and weather):

7-8.30 - morning warm up practice
9-10.15 - breakfast and self-time
10.30-13 - morning activity (Waterfall hike & swim/forest meditation)
13-14.30 - lunch & self-time
15-17 - community and outdoor play playshop (acro/partner/massage/introduction to co-ordination/intro to acrobatics)
17-18.30 - snacks & sunset
19-20.00 - dinner
20-21h - evening activity (sound journey/concert/food workshop/bonfire)

Finally, a previous attendee of The Deep Retreat last year shares this, "Dave, Guy, Nat & Fran carved out a little point in time where the body and mind could be nourished, replenished and rejuvenated. They held a space for the deeper questions to be asked, and where each person could feel their way through to an answer that they could integrate into their daily lives. THE DEEP RETREAT provided this, along with the necessary release of old patterns; a clear starting point if you will. Many miles away from my comfort zone, I had deep revelations that have somehow found their way into my life with ease."

Dave Gardner: Dave’s experience so far has been influenced and inspired by Henry Madini of CAMA Muay Thai SA, Jim Harrington and Simon Borg-Olivier of Yoga Synergy, Aditi Gaur of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition, Cameron Shayne of Budokon University, David Aghion of Gracie Barra, Richie Lowe of Renzo Gracie Cape Town, Tom Weksler’s Movement Archery, Tomislav English’s Ferus Animi Terra Nova and Iesu Escalante’s Shifting methods, Shaolin Wushu and Acrobatics.

Dave’s process is to study with these and other teachers, to research through his personal practice and develop a way in which we all contribute to one another’s lives and work. Dave currently host masterclasses, weekend workshops, monthly immersion’s, and retreats. His work is to assist and facilitate the individual to create their own path through self-awareness.

Guy Buttery is something of a “National treasure”, says South Africa’s leading newspaper The Mercury. Guy has evolved into one of the leading ambassadors for South African music, inspiring people across the world with his homegrown style at the very heart of his talent + tenacity. Guy’s distinct unification of South African guitar music is the musical advocate for everything positive + beautiful about the place he calls home.

Francesca likes to learn new things. She also likes food. Her journey to plant-based cooking was driven by her fascination to wanting to know more about new flavours, nutrition and how to to use her favourite fruit, a date, in as many dishes as she possibly find. Learning and experimenting as she goes and connecting with people who know way much more than she does, Francesca’s approach to food is one that is joyous, wholesome and healing.
