Ultimate Yoga & Himalayan Trek, 29 March, Kathmandu

There’s something indescribable about trekking in the Himalaya.  Maybe it’s the fresh crisp mountain air filling your lungs to capacity whilst you’re your eyes gaze upon some of the world’s tallest peaks (some of which are so sacred no climbing permits are granted).  In contemplation you are brought back to the reality of just how small you are against these giants of white glistening snow snuggly nestled against a backdrop of blue radiant sky.  The silence occasionally punctuated by the bells of a mule or yak caravan transporting goods of food, building materials, gas bottles or even a tourist or two in need of a lift to the next tea house rest stop.

A familiar and heartwarming site of the colorful prayer flags dotting the steep hill sides and roof tops of the mountain villages of Sherpa, Gurung, Tamang or one of the other many ethnic groups found in Nepal.  A friendly ‘Namaste’ greeting accompanied by a welcome cold drink, steaming hot cup of honey lemon ginger tea or perhaps your brave enough to try the locally brewed ‘Raksi’ or Chhang beer.

Nepal with its diverse cultures, fascinating history, intricate belief system and ancient temples and shrines can leave you dizzy with amazement.  Along with its vibrant bustling Kathmandu lifestyle, laid back lakeside holiday city of Pokhara or the serene and tranquil mountain treks Nepal has something to pique the interest of everyone.

I escort and have uniquely structured each tour as either a yoga experience with easy trekking or a more demanding trekking adventure to some of the highest lakes or passes in the world, possibly taking in a sacred mountain festival or you may be welcomed and swept along dancing to the music of a special ceremony.   Many times I have found new and exciting things to add in and experience on each and every journey.  Escorting each tour allows this flexibility to embrace the possibility of something around the next corner that cannot be ignored and just has to be explored ……..

Take in this invaluable experience as we sit by the pool with the sadhus-holymen who chant and meditate under the Bodhi Tree. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

What to expect…

Arrival into Kathmandu – Spend a few days with our special Nepali Guru – Ramesh.  From his early year’s yoga, taught to him by his dad and his dad before him, has been a major influence in cultivating what he now shares with others.  From pranayama, asana and his beloved singing bowls and meditation, bringing peace and joy to your heart in this never to be forgotten experience is what you can expect from this very special person I have had the privilege to connect with.  Our Kathmandu experience will take us to various UNESCO World Heritage sites and some off the beaten track areas as well.

6 days Trekking – from Kathmandu we make our way to the starting point in the Annapurna region of Nepal.  An easy daily ascent of 3 hours each day, through forests ablaze with rhododendron trees and other Himalayan flowers.  Gushing rivers and swing bridges to cross all the while a mixture of daily morning meditation, chanting or yoga nidra in the evenings is part of our programme.  The Himalayan mountains always feeling like a stones throw away and rising above until we reach our pinnacle at 3210m above sea level to witness a beautiful sunrise, hang a prayer flag for our loved ones past and present and rejoice in being alive and standing in this incredible place on earth.

Having stayed in authentic Tibetan tea houses we’ll safely make our way back through villages of local Nepali to take a jeep back to our yoga retreat.  Located in the forest near the beautiful lakeside city of Phokara, we’ll spend the next few days immersed in different aspects of yoga.  Whether it be the delicious Ayurvedic foods from the kitchen, enjoying massages and steam baths or practicing bakti, asana or meditation within this joyous place of tranquility – you will emerge feeling whole and renewed.

Our return to Kathmandu allows time for final shopping and exploring.  Finding exquisite yak wool blankets, beautiful intricately carved wooden or brass objects, buy your very own singing bowl to take home and enjoy and remember to bring an extra bag to fill with goodies for loved ones.

This experience is one not to be missed.  I can attest from previous clients how they have rediscovered a sense of adventure they thought long gone or tapped into feelings rooted so deep for so long and released its like a ‘letting go’ of proportions unexplainable.  Nepal has a way of creeping into your bones, your heart, your soul that the very saying of ‘Once is Never Enough’ just says it all.

I hope to be instrumental in your next adventure and allow you to experience this amazing country with so much to offer and maybe, just maybe a change is waiting, a new beginning just starting or an awakening ready to be drawn from its slumber.
