Eco-friendly Mangrove Lodge - your retreat home

This exclusive, small and intimate wellbeing retreat allows you to dive deep into both pilates and yoga in the dreamy, barefoot chic surroundings of your own private eco-friendly lodge.

Our home – Mangrove Lodge – is located in lush tropical gardens, just steps away from its own private golden sand beach. The lodge is family run & the owners are passionate about responsible tourism. This is not a five star resort. It is way better than that. This is a place we can truly call home: Our very own barefoot chic lodge, all to ourselves for a whole week. Our private chief sources the freshest local produce (organic where possible), including spices, coconuts and tropical fruits for which Zanzibar is famous. The food is delicious, nutritious and plentiful.

The lodge has 10 spacious en-suite bungalows. All of the bungalows are unique but they each have four poster beds, AC a private balcony and veranda with sun loungers. The rooms are nestled in lush tropical gardens. Sandy pathways lead to the lodge’s many chill out areas & the pristine golden sand beach.

This is a hospitable and warm tropical wellbeing experience. Expect great food and company, big smiles and a glowing feeling of happiness, calm and wellness to take away from your yoga and pilates retreat in paradise. 

Retreat Details 

You will wake up to views of the clear blue Indian Ocean whilst a gentle caresses you throughout the day. You have the luxury of being taught both pilates and yoga by two senior teachers (Liz and Janie). Both Janie and Liz are there to ensure that you not only relax, unwind and progress in yoga and pilates, but that you have the time of your life. We want to you have fun as well as to increase your physical and mental strength, flexibility and focus.

This exclusive retreat is small and friendly (no more than 15 people). This guarantees that you will get the individual attention, adjustments and modifications in your yoga and pilates practice that are as unique as you are! This retreat is open to you regardless of whether you are advanced in your practice or jus

This is a Responsible Travel Retreat

This retreat support protection and respect for the local environment and community. Both Mangrove Lodge and your retreat leader Liz are passionate about responsible travel. Mangrove Lodge supports a range of community and environmental projects. Your stay contributes to the local community. You will also be able to purchase fair trade, ethically produced goods and visit local community project should you wish to. 

Cost: £1175 GBP for your own private cottage

£875 per person for a shared cottage (no more than two per cottage)

Elizabeth Griffin

Over the past 20 years, Liz has combined her passion for yoga on the mat with public service off the mat (karma yoga). 

Liz started practicing yoga 20 years ago whilst living and working in some highly challenging and dangerous situations as an expert working in conflict zones. Liz first trained as a yoga teacher with the Sivanada school of yoga (200hrs RYT) in 2006. She then met her maha teacher Shiva Rea and spent six years intensively studying Shiva’s Prana Vinyasa Flow, gaining her 500 hrs certificate in 2012. Liz gained the highest “rank” a yoga teacher can attain in 2015 (Yoga Alliance Professional and Teacher Trainer). Liz is constantly evolving and learning and continues to study yoga and other healing arts. She completed her Yoga Nidra (deep yogic sleep) certification this year. 

Liz's fuses energising Vinyasa Flow and Prana Flow practices with lunar themed restorative flows that incorporate elements of Yin Yoga. Liz is passionate about sharing the multiple benefits of yoga with people from all walks of life in tropical dreamy locations. Liz has visited 73 countries and speaks five languages! She is the perfect retreat leader and travelling with her will allow you to immerse yourself in local culture and give back to the community whilst improving your physical and mental strength, focus and flexibility. 

Off the mat, Liz is an untiring advocate for justice, equality and peace. She is Extraordinary Lecturer, University of Pretoria (South Africa) and Fellow, University of Essex (UK). Liz runs a thriving coaching and mentorship practice which focuses on supporting individuals working in the non-profit sector.
