About: Dr. Nanine Wyma

I am here to empower your yin yoga practice with ancient wisdom.

While completing my Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Bali, I felt a deep resonance to the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach of the five elements and how they manifest through the organs of the human body.

During lockdown, I shifted to teaching online and loved how light I felt after each class. I noticed that my approach to yin yoga is unique and I wanted to start sharing the philosophies with more people across the globe.

I graduated with a bachelor of medicine and surgery in 2018. My passion and reverence for the exquisite nature of the human body is wha motivated me throughout my studies. I was busy working as a medical intern, struggling with chronic illness and became very interested in environmental medicine. I was already categorising how to find health within the air you breathe, the earth you interact with, the water you drink and the fire you engage in (sunshine, internal passion)

Back then, I would have preferred to do a vinyasa training but I didn’t have enough time. I ended up choosing a yin yoga course, with no idea what to expect.

When I arrived and started learning about the elements, the meridians, and the associated organs, metaphysical qualities, it immediately resonated with me and I became obsessed.

Yin Yoga is often overlooked and assumed to be basic. Driven by my passion, it is my goal to share the ancient wisdom of eastern medicine with more yin yoga teachers and students worldwide.

With a passion for the healing properties of plant-based food, I also started working on my dream of integrating this into modern healthcare. I currently manage the South African chapters of two global plant-based non profit organisations.

As director of Physicians Association for Nutrition South Africa, we educate and empower healthcare professionals with resources and evidence-based tools about plant-based diets. Concurrently, I am the Programmes & Communications Manager at ProVeg South Africa, leading public awareness campaigns about plant-based food.
